The people of Minnesota continue their resistance – and one way to stop ICE’s actions is to expand Minnesotans’ calls for a general strike. On Friday, January 30th, join a day of mass noncooperation with the system: no school, no work, and no shopping.
Hundreds of organizations across the country are endorsing this call, which originated from Somali and Black student organizations at UMN.
As journalist Eugene Puryear of BreakThrough News notes:
“The call from Minnesota students for a nationwide shutdown on January 30 has brought into question whether we are “ready” for something as drastic as a nationwide General Strike. But let’s be clear — this call is in the direct tradition of how general strikes have historically emerged in this country. Merging whatever level of organization we have with the righteous anger, indignation and determination of the people to act is exactly how these movements have been successful in the past.”
The call for ICE OUT must echo in every city. We can only win by standing together!
