Nihon Hidankyo is a group that represents Hibakusha — survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They strive to promote the social and economic rights of all Hibakusha and ensure that no one ever again is subjected to the catastrophe that befell them. The group was awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize “for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating with witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.”

Speakers include:

Mr. Satoshi Tanaka: Hiroshima survivor, journalist, and representative of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Nihon Hidankyo.

Myrriah Gómez: Associate Professor in the Honors College at the University of New Mexico and author of “Nuclear Nuevo México: Colonialism and the Effects of the Nuclear Industrial Complex on Nuevomexicanos.”

On Friday, September 26th, Mr. Tanaka delivered a speech to the UN General Assembly as part of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
